Client: Private Individuals
Project: City of London Apartment
In 2018 Sedley Place was approached by the German architects Gerlando Giarrizzo and Anja Welle, to help them implement the refurbishment of a penthouse apartment in the City of London. We were appointed to manage the project so that the refurbishment would comply with British standards, laws and regulations. Our project management also extended to overseeing the main contractor and liaising with and managing specialist suppliers for elements like the kitchen and the audio-visual system.
John Cullen was selected to work on the lighting design, which is fully Lutron-operated, while Roundhouse was commissioned to manufacture the bespoke kitchen. Cameron Gardens was employed to design and build the outdoor areas, with new decking, planters, outdoor lighting and heating. Air Improve was tasked with replacing the old air conditioning with a new, more energy-efficient system, and introduce acoustic improvements to minimise noise pollution, especially with the neighbouring flat. We also specified a new audio-video system, which was installed by Listening Rooms Ci.
We were also tasked with translating the architects’ chosen materials palette into available finishes and fittings from UK suppliers, developing the design of the fixed joinery and specifying the finishes of different components of the refurbishment.
We implemented a modern palette with a contemporary large-format oak herringbone pattern parquet flooring and polished and matt marble effect tiles for the bathroom. Plain coloured curtains were chosen for the large window fronts, to give the colourful furniture chosen by the client an appropriate back-ground. We selected outdoor decking colours to match the parquet flooring, to create an optically wider space looking from the inside to the outside and vice versa, and kept the walls and ceilings in white to highlight the architecture, especially the special wing roof structure.
